In Short…

PEDAL: People for Environment, Diversity, Action, and Learning is a non-profit educational organization created to help students across the United States learn about and become aware of the facets and realities of global sustainability. We provide opportunities to build lasting relationships, create a global community, and experience the world outside what students see everyday.

This is achieved through an in-class discussion series and out-of-class experiential education opportunity. The in-class aspect is not required but recommended and consists of a semester-long, discussion-based course in which students will do readings on, host Skype conversations with leaders involved in, and debate issues within a specified country or region regarding strengths and weaknesses of local, national, and international issues. The out-of-class experience includes a cycling journey that carries over from the in-class discussions. The students will PEDAL in South America or the United States, participate in volunteer opportunities, take part in discussions with leaders and politicians, and find their own ways to take action in these situations and those they may encounter back at home.

PEDAL works to foster an environment in which students can Learn through experience in the Environment, exposure to Diversity, and inspiration to take Action.
